Strong Leadership For Texas Students

My name is Letti Bresnahan.  I believe in the necessity of great public education and the power it has to create a strong democratic society and that is why I am seeking election to the State Board of Education, District 5.  I am the only candidate running who has won an election.  I was twice elected to the North East ISD School board in San Antonio, the 10th largest school district in the state.  I served for eight years, two of those as vice president and two as president.  I know what it’s like to serve on a board with members from very diverse backgrounds and experiences.  I know what it’s like to come together and make decisions that affect Texas students.

The State Board of Education plays a very important role in the instruction our students receive.  This 15-member board adopts curriculum and textbooks for the 5.4 million public school children in Texas.  The State Board of Education affects everyone because Texas is one of the largest purchasers of textbooks, which are adopted by the board.

I want to be your District 5 representative because I have a passion for education.  My mother was a public school teacher.  I was a PTA volunteer for 25 years while my children attended public school.  Voters elected me to serve on their school board for two terms because they believed in me.  And now, I continue to serve my community as a board member for Education Service Center Region 20, which oversees 56 school districts and 32 charters in 19 counties.

Texas is one of the fastest-growing states in our country and it is critical for us to ensure an exemplary educational system, thus giving everyone the opportunity to become contributing, capable and successful citizens.
